What is LI FI Technology
What is Li Fi
So in this Artical, we will learn about the Lifi technology, which is the abbreviation of a term light fidelity.
So in simple terms, we can say that this lifi technology is nothing but light based lifi technology.
And as we know, this wifi is fully network bi-directional wireless communication technology.
But data is being transmitted using the radio waves while in case of a lifi technology, that data is transmitted in the form of visible light using the LED light source.
So these household LED bulb and LED lamps, which are used as a light source can also be used to transmit the data.
1. How this lifi technology work
So, first of all, let us understand how this lifi technology works. So if you see any LED light source.
If you provide a constant current to this LED, it provides you the constant illumination or a constant brightness.
So as it is the current that is flowing through this LED bulb, the elimination or uprightness of this bulb will change.
So this principle is used for transporting the data wirelessly using this Lifi technology. So if no current or minimum current is flowing through this LED bulb then the brightness of this LED source will be minimum, and that will be treated as a digital zero.
- What is System in Chip
- What is Multiviblator
- What is Pic18-Q40 Microcontroller
- What is power over Ethernet
So the digital zero will be transported at the receiver side. Similarly, when the light is on, or we can say that if maximum amount of current is flowing through this LED bulb, then the elimination or uprightness of the LED will be maximum.
And that will be treated as a digital one. So whenever the LED is on, so digital one will be transmitted at the receiver side.
So in this way, by flickering the LED light source very rapidly, we can transmit the data in the form of one-and zeros to the receiver.
And if this flickering is happening at million times per second, and we cannot see this flickering by our naked eyes, and we can treat this LED source as a normal, regular bulb source.
So now let us see the schematic of a lifi task would render it is your system. So as you can see the data which is coming from the web server or internet first way, it will go to the modem which provides a necessary modulation to the incoming data stream.
Then this modulator data is fed to the LED driver, which changes the driving current for this LED, according with the incoming streaming data at the receiver.
And if you see the optical receive data is first converted into the electrical signal using the photo receiver or a photodiode.
And after the signal conditioning this data is being fed to the computer or a laptop. So to receive these incoming data at the receiver side.
We require the lifi dongle, which consists of a photo receiver, as bulb as the transmitter.
Now this infrared task can be used to transmit the uplink data back to the lifi source.
Now, once that's company provides a complete lifi, I solution is a pure lifi. We generally make this Li-Fi dongles.
So now, as we know how this Lifi technology works, now, let us see the advantages of this lifi technology over the other wireless communication technologies.
So these are the, some of the advantages of this lifi technology or the other wireless communication technologies.
2. Speed
So first let us talk about this speed. So, so far researchers have achieved the data speed up to the 10 Gbps in the lab skill prototype models.
And this speed can further be enhanced by using the area of LED source or by using the multiple colors of LED like RGB LED.
Where each LED source is able to transmit that data up to the 10 Gbps.
So using such technologies, the researchers have achieved a maximum speed up to the a hundred Gbps.
3. Compare
So now let us compare it speed with other wireless communication technologies. So if we compare it with the 4g LTE or particularly the LT advanced and the maximum, speed under this LTE.
Advanced is a one Gbps for the stationary user and a hundred Mbps for the mobile user.
But all these speed are there theoretically achievable, maximum speed, but actual speed may be much lesser compared to this theoretical achievable, maximum speed.
So if you see the countries which provides the fastest internet in the world, the average 4g LTE speed in such countries is in the range of 40 to 50 Mbps, which is much lesser compared to the speed, which is provided by the lifi.
So now let us compare the speed of lifi and wifi.
4. Speed Compare WiFi and LiFi
Now, in case of a wifi, if you see the standard IEEE 8.2.11, the maximum speed of which can be separated by this standard is 1.3 Gbps entities under the five guards.
Which is almost a hundred times lesser compared to the speed, which is supported by the lifi. And if you see the another wire, a standard.
Which is not commercially available yet, that is a IEE 8.2.11.80KM, maximum speed, which can be upgraded by this standard is seven Gbps.
And all the speed, which are mentioned over here are the theoretically achievable, maximum speed.
But the actual speed may be quite lesser compared to the theoretically at this maximum speed.
And still, if we consider the maximum speed, which is supported by this wifi technology and lifi technology is still 10 times faster compared to this 5g technology.
And right now the speed of which is provided by the wifi technology is sufficient for our day-to-day lifi.
But as we are moving in the era for internet of things, where each device is able to communicate with each other soon.
You will find that the speed which is flooded by the wifi technology is insufficient, and you will require the insane speed liker hundred Gbps, which as of now Luca dream.
So next, if you see the electromagnetic spectrum, the bandwidth of the radio waves is up to 300 gigahertz.
But if you see the bandwidth of this visible spectrum alone, the bandwidth of this visible spectrum is around 300 Tayla hearts, which is almost a thousand times more compared to the bandwidth offer radio waves.
So not only you can achieve the higher speed, but also you will not find any kind of electromagnetic interference.
So now in the case of a lifi, as we are using the visible light source, the visible light source can not cross the walls.
Unlike the case of a wifi, where the radio waves are able to transmit across the walls.
So in this way, this lifi technology provider, one more layer of security. So these are the advantages of this lifi technology, or the other wireless communication technologies.
5. Applications of Lifi Technology
So now let us see the different applications of this lifi technology. So this Lifi technology can be used in the hospitals, has this lifi technology technologies providing very high speed internet communication.
So the real time health monitoring of the patient will be possible. So apart from that, this lifi technology, you can be used for the underwater communication.
Also using this technology, the vehicles can communicate with each other, using the front and, the red lights and using this technology.
We can prevent the accidents. Also this Lifi technology can be used in the aeroplanes to provide the internet to the passengers.
And not only that, if this technology is fitted into our streetlights, then even our streets light can provide us a high speed internet.
So these are the, some of the applications in which this lifi technology can be used, but still, if you see these lifi technologies, that futuristic technology, that means commercially, there are no products which are available, which providers are in sales split up to the 10 GPS or a hundred Gbps.
So in the upcoming years, we might see the technologies or the devices, which support this lifi technology.
Soon right now, as we are seeing the free wifi zone in the cafeteria in future, we might see a free lifi zone in the cafeterias.
6. Question about LiFi
So now the bigger question is if lifi is a future of internet, then what about the already existing wireless technologies to answer? Is that in future also the, all the existing technologies will remain.
And other this lifi technology will compliment all the existing technologies because this lifi is the short range communication.
So using this technology, we cannot cover the entire area using the light. So grossly, if you say, when you require large coverage.
We will still prefer the wifi and the 4g LTV, but in the short coverage, like in case of our room or hotel or even offices, we can still prefer this lifi technology.
So I hope in this Artical, you understood about this lifi, a technology.
